| Question of the Week | Tuesday we asked: The City of Worcester is working on its first master plan in 30 years. It's still in the works, but plan is expected to include streets emphasizing pedestrians and bicyclists as much as motorists, and trends toward mixed-use development featuring shops or restaurants on the street level and residential or office use above. | What is the most important strategy Worcester should include in its master plan? |  | - None of these should even be considered unless and until the city ceases the self destructive strategy of welcoming and even soliciting programs that attract excessively needy people (drug addicts, sex offenders, homeless, mentally ill). No taxes are paid and these programs infest the city with crime, cause productive tax payers to bear a disproportionate burden of taxes, leave tax payers with no revenue for maintenance of existing infrastructure, services and amenities, dishearten residents, depress property values and encourage flight of the middle class. There is a reason why dollar stores are being located in Worcester. And it's not good news for any of us.
- It really is all of the above and the 1st and 4th option should not be exclusive to each other.
- Eliminate residential and commercial parking requirements that are causing developers to tear down nearby buildings for surface lots. The current policy reduces funds for development, tax revenue for the city, and density that supports walkability and biking.
