1. APPLE TO ANNOUNCE NEW SERVICES ON MONDAY: Apple is scheduled to broadcast an announcement from its Cupertino headquarters at 1 p.m. ET on March 25. Many believe the tech giant will reveal a video streaming service (a possible competitor to Netflix) and a news-focused paid subscription service, but no new hardware launches are anticipated. Mashable: “From the look of things, Apple will launch its currently unnamed streaming service with a powerful lineup of celebrity talent. Steven Spielberg, M. Night Shyamalan, Kristen Wiig, and Jennifer Aniston were just a few of the names linked to Apple's service when it was reported early last year.” 2. DUNKIN' AND SAUCONY DESIGN DOUGHNUT-INSPIRED SNEAKER FOR BOSTON MARATHON: Just in time for the Boston Marathon, which takes place April 15, Dunkin' and Saucony have launched a special-edition doughnut-inspired sneaker. The Kinvara 10 features the coffee brand’s signature pink and orange colors, doughnut medallions on the laces, a coffee cup on the tongue, and a reflective “Boston” on the heel. USA Today: “‘Inspired by Boston’s historic marathon, these two iconic local brands have joined forces to honor the symbiotic relationship between running, coffee and donuts,’ the companies said in a statement.” 3. PLAYBOY WON’T HOST PARTY DURING WHITE HOUSE CORRESPONDENTS’ WEEKEND: After hosting its inaugural party last year, Playboy is skipping this year’s event, which takes place April 27, but it isn’t ruling out a return in the future. Washingtonian: “The magazine—which has one White House Correspondent—is ‘sitting this year out,’ according to John Vlautin, a spokesperson for Playboy Enterprises. Playboy‘s inaugural bash last year, dubbed the 'No Tie Party,' made quite a splash. Playmates posed for pictures with journalists and their plus ones as Miguel crooned on a stage in a roped off V.I.P. area. (This reporter remembers waiting in the rain for nearly an hour to squeeze into the event at Dupont Circle’s the Living Room.)” |
