DailyOM: Hi Niki, tell us briefly about your course and what students can expect.
Niki Carr: This course is designed to help students create a meaningful morning routine that will set them up for a successful day--and life! By making the most of the time we have in the morning, we can establish healthy habits to help us conquer the day with more energy, mindfulness, and strength. Each lesson includes Pilates and barre workouts to suit the intensity and length of workout that works best for you, ranging anywhere between 10 to 30 minutes. In addition to your workouts, each day offers a morning affirmation, a guided gratitude journal, and stretches you can do throughout the day to keep feeling great.
DailyOM: How does this course help students make a successful morning routine?
NC: Generally, people are most productive as soon as they wake up in the morning. But without focus and intention that energy can easily be spent on activities that draw attention away from your goals and priorities. By incorporating the steps included in this course, you ensure that you are putting your energy to good use, setting yourself up for success, and accomplishing more in your morning than most people will all day.
DailyOM: What are the health benefits of having a regular sleep schedule?
NC: When it comes to sleep, the most important thing is the quality and length of sleep. Making sure you get the recommended eight hours keeps you functioning mentally and physically at your best. Aim to be consistent with your wake-up time each morning to help your body adjust. This consistency helps you make the most of the time you have available each morning, which has a positive impact on the way you approach your day. You gain confidence and mental focus, so you can make healthy choices that empower you.
DailyOM: What if someone doesn't have time for all the morning workouts?
NC: That's okay! Structuring a successful morning routine means knowing your priorities and doing the best you can with the time you have available. On some days that means less is more. That is why the Pilates workouts I have created are short but effective at waking up and moving the body, all in less than 10 minutes. If you are not normally a morning person, give yourself time to adjust and incorporate as much of the routine as you can on that day. The bottom line is to start your day with confidence. That might mean completing both of the workouts and a stretch, but occasionally it might mean you just have 10 minutes to spare so you fit in what you can--that's okay too.
DailyOM: How long will it take to notice the benefits of the course?
NC: By the first day you should notice how amazing it feels to make the most of your mornings. Jump-starting your day with a productive morning has a lasting effect on everything else you do throughout the rest of that day and the next. You feel organized, energized, and mentally prepared for whatever lies ahead. By the end of the course, you will have established daily healthy habits that give you more time during the rest of your day to do the things you enjoy with the people you love.
DailyOM: Should we do anything before we go to bed to make our morning easier?
NC: Making sure you get a proper night's sleep is key to making it easier to get out of bed in the morning, and, of course, don't forget to set that alarm clock! The more you have ready to go the night before, whether it's packing your lunch or laying out your outfit for the next day, the less stressful your morning will be, and you will find it easier to focus on the rest of your day. Make sure you have your notepad and pen ready by your bed for your morning affirmations and goal setting. Doing these simple steps the night before sets you up for a successful morning and gives you all the time you need to make it productive.
DailyOM: What is the most important early morning habit for success?
NC: Making time for yourself is the most important habit you can form, and choosing to be as productive as you can with that time is where you will find success. Properly preparing your mind and body for the day ahead is essential, and you will never regret the time you invest in yourself.
It is understandable that it is not easy for everyone to be a morning person! But Niki's course makes it not only doable, but also simple and fun. It is perfect for those who need that extra motivating (and caring) push, and for those who want to take their mornings to a higher level. Until next time.
Be well,
DailyOM
