An estimated 5 to 17 percent of schoolchildren have dyslexia, defined as any difficulty reading single words. Sargent College assistant professor Tyler Perrachione’s research into phonological working memory—a person’s abIlity to hold speech sounds in mind—is shedding new light into what makes dyslexic brains different and could lead to new, more effective interventions.
