A few days ago, Unconditional Basic Income Europe (UBIE) met for its annual General Assembly. Among other discussions, we agreed on our priorities for the coming year.
Besides the ongoing European Citizens’ Initiative, we also want to put an emphasis on promoting UBI within political parties, creating alliances with ecological movements, exploring the connections between UBI and digitalisation, as well as influencing the debate on the European Pillar of Social Rights from a non-workfare perspective.
Of course, we will keep pushing the EU, member states, regions and municipalities to start basic income experiments, we will also continue lobbying for an European response to the pandemic crisis with a basic income perspective, and we will support awareness raising activities such as the Basic Income Tea webinar series, the Wow! Basic Income! exhibition and International Basic Income Week.
If you’re interested in getting involved in any of the above, feel free to let us know by dropping a mail to contact@ubie.org
At the General Assembly, also a new UBIE Core Group has been elected. Alessandra Bianchi from Belgium remains our Chair, Dániel Fehér (Hungary) and Antonios Triantafyllakis (Greece) continue as Vice Chairs, as does Ulrich Schachtschneider (Germany) in the capacity of our Treasurer. We welcome Maria Quirimit (Greece) as our new Secretary and would like to use the occasion to thank Vladan Lausevic from Sweden, who held this post over the past 2.5 years for his dedicated work on the board!
We also would like to thank all participants of the General Assembly and all other members of UBIE for their continued support and we’re looking ahead of bringing forward the basic income idea and the movement in the coming two years!
