Regional Roundup
Question of the Week
Tuesday we asked: On May 22, Berkshire Hills Bancorp, Inc. announced it would acquire the parent company of Worcester-based Commerce Bank for $209 million in stock. Berkshire bank plans to move its headquarters to Boston and keep the Worcester branches under the Commerce Bank name, but the Pittsfield-based Berkshire didn't say anything about adding new branches.
What do you use traditional, brick-and-mortar bank branches for?
  • Business is brick.
  • Technology is great, except for when governments do not cooperate. I can remotely deposit all U.S. checks to my U.S. bank, but when I get a Canadian check I must either mail it or show up at a bank. Plus, you cannot look an electronic teller or bank officer in the eye. Maybe someday.
  • I go into the branch to access my safety deposit box and to get bank checks when necessary.
