Everything happening in Toronto real estate this week
Dear reader, A fun part of my job is going over all the wild and wacky homes my writers send to my inbox: a laneway suite made from a shipping container, modular homes that are mostly built off-site, an Italian grotto built on a side road. When I was growing up, the property dream used to be owning a gorgeous condo in the sky or a red-brick Victorian near downtown. Today, Torontonians are forced to be more creative, making ownership attainable by thinking beyond glass boxes and quaint plots. But Curb Appeal’s top post this week is both unusual and lavish: a shimmering $2.2-million Quonset hut sitting on five acres of land in Grey County. A net-zero property, it’s proof that going green is good for both the environment and resale values. Also in today’s newsletter: what it’s like to live next to a converted railroad. Plus, a church penthouse in the Annex going for $2.2 million. For all of our real estate coverage and more, visit torontolife.com or subscribe to our print edition. |

How about a three-bedroom, two-bathroom net-zero Quonset hut surrounded by Grey County wildlife? The place comes with an organic vegetable garden, a barrel sauna and an equally curvy workshop. It’s 10 minutes by car from Devil’s Glen Country Club, 20 minutes from downtown Collingwood and two hours from Toronto. | |

| Here’s a 2,300-square-foot Edwardian steps from the Beltline Trail in midtown. The place has plenty of Venetian verve, five bathrooms, original stained glass and a big backyard. And it’s currently going for $3.3 million. |
