2-for-1 LSO tickets and a Twelfth Night-inspired musicalHalf Six Fix is back!
Discover two stirring symphonies at the Barbican this FebruaryLondon Symphony Orchestra’s Half Six Fix is back! This series of short and sweet orchestral concerts at the Barbican is an excellent gateway to the medium for newbies — as well as offering plenty to please seasoned concert goers. And this month the LSO is really spoiling us — with a pair of performances showcasing two terrific British composers. On Wednesday 5 February, Sir Antonio Pappano conducts Walton’s Symphony No. 1. As always, the evening begins with an introduction to the piece which reveals the context of its composition (in this case, heartbreak following the end of an affair), and the highlights to listen out for (the intense opening, snarky scherzo, tragic slow movement, and celebratory finale), before the LSO work their magic on it. Then, on Wednesday 12 February, Pappano returns to conduct A Sea Symphony by Vaughan Williams. This immense ode to the power of nature sees the LSO joined by two soloists and the London Symphony Chorus, who sing through almost the entirety of the work. With each Half Six Fix concert lasting just an hour, it’s a fantastic alternative to a post-work pint — and our readers even bring a friend along at no additional cost, with 2-for-1 tickets available with the code LDN25HSF (that works out as little as £7.50 each!) Play On sees ambitious songwriter Vy employ gender-fluid cunning to make it in the New York City jazz scene.
