Dear friend and supporter, In the midst of the ongoing conflict, approximately 20,000 children in Israel are caught "between the cracks." These include kindergarten students who were supposed to be excited about moving up to first grade, elementary school students who are lagging behind in reading, writing, and math – some still impacted from the time of the pandemic – and middle and high school students, whose sensitivity to social matters is higher than ever before. Even now, nine months into this escalating conflict, the country lacks a coherent plan for those displaced from the North. Despite the Ministry of Education announcing preparations for the school year to proceed as usual, the public can't rely on the leadership, and the figures are alarming. of Kiryat Shmona evacuees, only a third of students registered for high school, and for kindergartens, slightly more than half. Feed Israel is stepping in to help evacuees with programs that keep kids occupied and other efforts to support families, including those with children suffering due to the disrupted education system. Thousands are still unable to return home, and with the looming threat of war with Hezbollah, the situation can get even worse. |
