Friend, today marks Trump’s first 100 days in office. And if you think it feels more like 100 years have passed, we can’t say we disagree. Here are just a few of the terrible things that have happened since Trump took office: Media and tech billionaires who gave generously to Trump’s campaign and his inaugural committee took center stage at the inauguration in January, making it clear that they never cared about protecting their users or our democracy. FCC Chairman Brendan Carr and the Trump administration are intimidating journalists — threatening to revoke the broadcast licenses of radio and television stations for airing coverage the Trump administration dislikes and launching a sham investigation into public media. Elon Musk’s so-called “Department of Government Efficiency” is running roughshod over the U.S. government and your personal data — taking aim at federal agencies and gaining access to an unfathomable stockpile of sensitive personal information like Social Security numbers, as well as Treasury Department systems that control everything from Medicare payments to tax refunds. The Trump administration wants to end public media as we know it, proposing to claw back $1.1 billion in already-approved funding for the Corporation for Public Broadcasting. The only way forward is to do everything in our power to defend our democracy and the institutions that many of us rely on for news, information and safe access to our private data.
