| | 5 REASONS TO RIDE THE HAUTE ROUTE SAN FRANCISCO 27-29 SEPTEMBER 2019 |
The Bay Area’s unique geography means there are great climbs, thrilling descents, and stunning scenery within miles of one of the largest cities in the United States. This is a city where “local knowledge” is essential if you want to find the best routes, and we’ve done the work so you can come and enjoy three exciting routes worry-free. Starting near the north end of the Golden Gate Bridge, Stage 1 is a classic tour of Marin County, including Mt. Tamalpais, Stinson Beach, Alpine Dam and towering redwoods.

#2 It's a Great Place for the Whole Family! |
The only problem a family will face in San Francisco is narrowing down their choices of what to do! You can ride cable cars, explore Fisherman’s Wharf, visit the San Francisco Zoo or San Francisco Museum of Modern Art, walk across Golden Gate Bridge, or take a ferry to Alcatraz, Sausalito, Oakland, or Berkeley. With a world-class public transportation system, the Bay Area is also one of the easiest places to explore without a car.
#3 Exclusive Angel Island Time Trial |
For Stage 3, Haute Route has once again secured exclusive access to the car-less Angel Island for a time trial. The island offers expansive, breathtaking 360 degree views of the bay area, including the San Francisco skyline, Golden Gate Bridge, Bay Bridge, Richmond Bridge, Tiburon, San Francisco, and the bay. Riders will be treated to a private ferry ride through San Francisco Bay to reach this island that has been an immigration station, a military base, and is now protected as a state park.
With course options that allow cyclists to customize their 3-day Haute Route experience, riders can choose their ideal balance of challenge, scenery, and time on the bike. Stages 1 and 2 will each feature Original and Compact courses. All riders will experience the same support and amenities on and off the bike, and all your stage and timed segment results will be recorded. There will be separate competitions for riders who complete both Original courses and riders who complete both Compact courses.

#5 Stay in the Heart of San Francisco |
With a stage to the south including Half Moon Bay; a stage to the north in Marin County, and a time trial on an island in San Francisco Bay, the Official Event Hotel will be centrally located in Fisherman’s Wharf near the Golden Gate Bridge. Riders will be transported to and from each stage, and then have the opportunity to explore the culture and cuisine in the heart of the city.
