60% of U.S. Cow Herd Faced with Drought

After months of closure, Canada is considering reopening it's border with the U.S. due to COVID-19 cases dropping. According to Bloomberg, officials representing Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are starting internal preliminary discussions.

There's growing concern from North Dakota to Texas about drought intensifying as summer weather arrives. According to Drovers, in some areas, pastures aren't greening up and that's already forcing cows to slaughter.

Farmers continue to plant the 2021 crop at a fast pace, but rains over the weekend and this week could start slowing progress. The latest USDA Crop Progress Report showed 80% of the corn crop is now planted, which is 12 points ahead of the five-year average.
