The Trump administration wants to remove the remaining federal protections for wolves, just as it attempted to do with grizzlies last year. Since the US Fish and Wildlife Service stripped protections for Wyoming’s wolves in 2017, an estimated one-quarter of the state’s wolf population has been killed in the name of "predator management."

On April 10, Chicago became the largest city in the US to commit to 100% clean energy. A resolution passed unanimously by the city council will enable the metropolis of 2.7 million to power all of its buildings with clean, renewable energy by 2035. The Chicago Transit Authority, second-largest public transportation system in the nation, will electrify its fleet of nearly 2,000 buses by 2040.

While President Trump spews venomous falsehoods about immigrants and the “invasion” taking place along the border with Mexico, veterans have been visiting borderlands communities to investigate the situation first-hand. The real danger, they found, is the administration’s xenophobic rhetoric, disregard for the human rights of asylum seekers, and militarization of the border zone. The Sierra Club has sued the administration for violating the Constitution with its fabricated “national emergency.”

A bank robbery is taking place—this according to a new study that graded 33 banks on their financing of the fossil fuel industry. Some very well-known banks are robbing us of a chance to live and thrive in a stable climate.

Energy company Hilcorp Alaska is asking the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) for an exemption to the Marine Mammal Protection Act that would allow the company to "take marine mammals incidental to oil and gas activities in Alaska’s Cook Inlet for up to five years." Under this law, “taking” includes hunting and killing marine mammals such as the Cook Inlet beluga whale (pictured at left), already on the brink of extinction. The public comment period ends May 1.

Tell NOAA to deny this exemption.

The Sierra Club has written a letter to the Nobel Committee, supporting the nomination of Swedish high schooler Greta Thunberg to receive this year’s Nobel Peace Prize. For three weeks leading up to a parliamentary election last fall, Thunberg spent every school day outside Parliament House to protest her government’s inaction on climate change. In December, she spoke at a UN climate conference in Poland.
