This afternoon will feature above average temperatures, similar to yesterday, with highs in the upper 50s. Clouds will increase this afternoon ahead of our next weather maker that will bring wet weather to the region during the late afternoon and evening hours. A line of gusty showers and storms is possible with high winds and small hail possible. The Storm Prediction Center has the DMV under the 'Marginal' risk category for severe weather. THIS EVENING, NEW YEAR'S EVE Scattered Showers Tapering Off Temperatures: upper 40s Winds: West 5-10 mph Have the umbrella for your dinner plans and plan for wet pavement on area roadways. Skies will begin to clear around midnight with temperatures fall into the upper 40s. WEDNESDAY, NEW YEAR'S DAY: Partly Sunny, Blustery Highs: 45-50 Winds: Northwest 15-25, Gusts to 30 mph Get ready colder start to 2025 with highs temperatures (where they should be this time of year) in the 40s. A blustery northwest wind will make for lower feels-like temperatures. THURSDAY: Sunny, Windy Highs: 37-42 Winds: West 10-15 mph Wind Chills: 30-35 Mostly sunny skies, but cold and windy as Arctic air slowly moves into the area. West winds 10 to 15 mph will produce wind chills close to freezing during the afternoon. FRIDAY: Mostly Sunny Highs: around 45 Winds: West 8-12 mph Ahead of another push of cold air, highs for the day will reach the middle 40s.
