WEDNESDAY, JULY 8, 2025 TODAY: HEAT ALERT STORM ALERT Mostly Sunny PM Thunderstorms Highs: 90-95 Winds: Southwest 3-8 mph Sunshine in the morning will help push temperatures to the middle 90s by afternoon. A heat advisory has been issued for Tuesday, targeting areas mainly along and east of I-95. The advisory will be in effect from 1 p.m. to 7 p.m. Plan for heat index values to climb to around 105, with a few spots—especially near the Chesapeake Bay—possibly feeling closer to 107 degrees due to higher dew points in that area. As the heat peaks, so do storm chances. Mid-to-late afternoon scattered strong to severe storms are likely to bubble up, with pockets of moderate to heavy rain. A Flood Watch is in effect from 2pm until midnight. Thunderstorms could also cause damage with wind gusts over 60 mph possible in storms. The Storm Prediction Center has the DMV in the Level 2 out of 5 risk category (Slight).
TONIGHT: Showers and Storms End Lows: 70s Winds: North 3-8 mph Any leftover storms from the evening fade, leaving behind another very muggy night. Lows range from lower to middle 70s for most, with areas of fog possible by dawn. WEDNESDAY: Partly Cloudy, Sticky Scattered PM Thunderstorms Highs: 88-90 Heat Index: 90-95 Winds: South 5 mph Not quite as hot as Tuesday, but it’ll still feel plenty hot. Highs settle into the low 90s, and with high humidity still firmly in place, it’ll feel closer to the upper 90s. Expect a mix of sun and clouds for the day, with another round of pop-up storms during the afternoon and evening. Downpours could be heavy, and localized flooding remains possible.
THURSDAY: Scattered Showers, Storms Highs: 80-85 Winds: South 5-10 mph A little less heat, but more in the way of clouds and showers. Highs will top out in the upper 80s, however, the stickiness factor continues and it won’t feel that much cooler. Scattered to widespread storms are likely again in the afternoon, and slow-moving cells may drop a lot of rain in a short time. Localized flooding may become problematic, especially areas that have had significant rainfall totals this week.
FRIDAY: Scattered Showers, Thunder Highs: around 85 Winds: Northeast 3-8 mph Storm chances dip just a little, but still looking at more humidity, more clouds, and more late-day storms. Highs are back in the upper 80s, and any storm could once again bring pockets of moderate to heavy rain, gusty winds, and lightning. It’s not quite a copy-paste of earlier in the week, but close. The forecast trend is a little drier as we move into the weekend. Download the First Alert Weather app to stay up to date with the latest forecast. |
