Dear reader, Norman Jewison was a real Torontonian. He grew up in the Beaches, attended Malvern Collegiate, founded the Canadian Film Centre and paid tribute to the city in his 1999 film, The Hurricane. Jewison spent most of his senior years in California, but he kept his office here: a five-storey former furniture factory on Gloucester Lane, overlooking his namesake park. It’s a time capsule with 1970s decor and turn-of-the-century bones, and it happens to be Curb Appeal’s top post this week. With Jewison’s passing in January, this famous pied-à-terre is now moving on to its next act. The filmmaker’s children have put the property on the market for $8.5 million—a rare opportunity to own a special piece of Toronto history. Also in today’s newsletter: a surreal trip through a Rosedale mansion. Plus, a tour of Marjorie Harris’s garden escape in the Annex. Visit torontolife.com for all our real estate coverage. |
