I spent the last three years traveling the world, living everywhere from Thailand to Prague to South Africa to the UK. It was an amazing, life-changing experience, but I was essentially celibate the entire time. I only had sex once a year, usually on my birthday. The other thing I didn't do while I was abroad: See a gynecologist. So when I started having long gaps between periods shortly after I returned to the United States this summer, I finally made an appointment to see a doctor. A preliminary question about whether I have pain during sex led me to experiment with K, a former friend with benefits who lives nearby. It started out as science, but now we're having sex once a week. He's married, but we never bring our outside lives into the bedroom.
