Happy Thanksgiving. Weather news is on Updraft and your forecast is here. Now, a story: “This really is a little miracle.” Michelle Christensen is grateful this year, having recently adopted Kameron, who’s celebrating his first Thanksgiving as a Christensen with his mom and brother, Rowen. MPR News’ Jiwon Choi has the story of their 2-year journey to finalize the family on National Adoption Day. And another happy story… Read some feelings of gratitude from your fellow Minnesotans, as compiled by Emily Bright. And a less happy one … Here’s another very real and scary sign of climate change: 2019 is officially the wettest year ever in the Twin Cities. As meteorologist Paul Huttner writes, total precipitation at the airport was 40.81 inches as of Wednesday morning. Of course, the previous record isn’t old. It was set in 2016. This is our new normal under climate change. The fire that killed five Minneapolis residents appeared to have started by accident. The fire chief said heavy snow masked flames on the 14th story of a public housing complex. The blaze is under investigation. A fundraiser for fire victims is hosted on giveMN.org. One more thing: another storm may be on its way. Again, here’s a plug for our safe-driving tips. Some good news, some bad. Now get back to whatever you’re doing, hopefully with some loved ones, and have a great day. — Cody Nelson, MPR News |
