"He's in bad shape!" I grasped the receiver with a white-knuckle grip as adrenaline shot through my system. "What! How?" I'd assumed our cat would be safe outside during daylight in our rural suburb. My eyes burned with unshed tears as I listened to Rex's terse explanation. Around noon, he ran from his backyard shop when he heard Thumper screaming. At the sight of Rex, a coyote dropped Thumper on the grass and vanished. The cat looked dead, lying on the grass with his tongue out, but was still breathing. Rex rushed him to the vet.
