| Good evening, If the pandemic has taught us anything it is about the dangers of not making messages clear. While the Government’s initial message to ‘Stay at Home, Protect the NHS and Save Lives’ was as clear as it could be, since then the public has struggled to understand when the wording has been more nuanced. Of course, it’s hardly surprising. As soon as you start to move away from that uncomplicated phrasing, people start to put their own interpretations on what is being said. So Stay Alert can, for instance, mean very different things to different people. And while you can’t answer every question people might have in just one phrase, it is important during a time of unprecedented change and worry, that people’s many queries are resolved quickly and easily. The pandemic is still ongoing and the situation is fluid, to say the least, but as things get more difficult, communication becomes increasingly important. As we have learned over the last few months, if anyone leaves an information void, someone will fill it ... and not always with the truth.
