2 Super 2 Tuesday
It’s not quite another Super Tuesday today, but it’s something — call it Super Tuesday’s younger sibling. Six states hold their primaries today: Michigan, Washington, Missouri, Mississippi, Idaho and North Dakota.
Joe Biden enters the day with an 80-delegate lead over Bernie Sanders, and today lead could become large enough that Sanders can’t close the gap. Sanders has his own hopes though: Michigan and Washington both picked him over Hillary Clinton in 2016.
Nidhi Prakash spoke to black voters in Mississippi and Missouri this weekend, and they are very aware of the way their community has kept Biden’s campaign alive. Black voters “want to go for a sure thing” said Darryl Hayes, 61, at a Biden rally in St. Louis.
Sanders hasn’t got the endorsement from Elizabeth Warren that his supporters were hoping for, but he did pick up one high-profile Warren backer yesterday: the Working Families Party. It said it is “going to do everything to unite progressives and unite the left to help Bernie be the nominee.”
Mandel Ngan / Getty Images CORONAVIRUS UPDATE The outbreak has officially arrived in DC. Four members of Congress, including Florida Rep. Matt Gaetz and Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, went into self-quarantine yesterday after interacting with a person later diagnosed with the virus at the CPAC conference last month.
Scammers are doing their thing, and the FDA is cracking down. It threatened legal action yesterday against seven companies, including one run by disgraced televangelist Jim Bakker, for selling scam coronavirus remedies.
The entire country of Italy is now on lockdown. A quarantine on Milan, Venice and other northern cities was expanded nationwide yesterday, and will be in effect until April 3.
Why did Novi Sanzhary, a small town in Ukraine, experience chaos and riots over coronavirus fears? “A toxic mix of limited information released by Ukraine’s authorities, disinformation spread by the public on social media and a targeted fake news campaign from yet-to-be-identified malign actors,” reports Chris Miller.

On Sunday, hundreds of thousands of women marched through the streets of Mexico City, protesting violence against women. On Monday, they didn’t show up for work, and many businesses closed in solidarity. Karla Zabludovsky was on the streets for a monumental day for the women’s movement in Mexico.

At a bookstore near the historic center of the city, none of the 10 women employees had gone to work. Their colleagues were happy to pick up the slack.
“It’s necessary for machistas to take a moment to become aware of their actions,” said Ricardo Hernández, 21, an employee at the Gandhi bookstore.
