Oh, that library queue.
The Thread's Must-Read
Seeing this twice? We added an extra book, which we left out in all the excitement! "Who is Vera Kelly?" by Rosalie Knecht Buy this book I flew west in mid-December with a passel of hardbacks, a Kindle full of novels and a to-be-listened-to podcast list as long as Santa’s snowy white beard. I'll share a few highlights here with you as we head in 2019. The first? I joined a months-long digital queue at my local library for Rosalie Knecht's novel, and it finally downloaded on Christmas Eve. I finished it by the time the presents were open and the Christmas cookies were just crumbs. The story moves back and forth between Vera Kelly’s adolescence in juvenile detention and ultimately in a posh boarding school. It leaps forward to her assignment as a surveillance tech on the eve of a coup in Buenos Aires. (I love it when a novel is set in South America!) Knecht’s writing is colorful and rich in detail, but restrained. I immediately got on the library waiting list for her earlier novel, “Relief Map.” It may be summer by the time I get it. -Kerri Miller
