It was a cold day in late spring when the slender, mostly black kitten we’d been feeding throughout the winter showed up again. But that morning, it was lethargic, with a runny nose and watery eyes. It barely glanced at the bowl of kibble before curling up into a tight ball on our kitchen table.

Our microchip reader found nothing, and even though the world was in quarantine due to Covid-19, I decided the cat needed to see a doctor. The problem was that no veterinarian would accept walk-ins. And it is impossible to schedule an appointment for a stray kitten that doesn’t understand you made an appointment on their behalf for a specific day and time. (Keep reading)
