| MARCH 24 | | Fashion’s exclusionary nature may have long gone unchecked, but the industry is now centered in an era of accountability that demands more where diversity is concerned— and in 2021, success will look like moving from casual commitments to active changemaking. While the industry is one that has specialized in creating desire, in dictating what’s beautiful and how that should look, in selling an ethos and expecting the world to buy it, it’s a model that no longer works. The industry has relied on people of color to inspire its designs, craft its products and sell them in its stores, but has largely omitted them from its brand messaging and boardrooms. And that’s a reality that no longer works. New and increasing demands call for true inclusion and representation, across all levels of the business, and the transparency to back it up. At Fairchild Media Group’s Virtual Diversity Forum, we will bring together key leaders and changemakers focused on bringing fashion and beauty into greater alignment with the diverse consumer base that supports it. From examining the state of the industry’s diversity, to navigating inclusion without tokenism, and exploring best practices to ensure a sustainable future, Fairchild Media Group invites you to dig in, debrief and determine the next steps forward on diversity, the new face of fashion and beauty. We look forward to having you join us virtually for one of the industry’s most critical conversations. Sincerely, Tara Donaldson Executive Editor, WWD Head of Diversity, Equity & Inclusion, Fairchild Media Group | | | | For more information visit fairchildlive.com | |
