This odd story came Thursday afternoon: because a live act played two copyrighted songs — two Christmas songs, each released before 1950 — and the owners of Prejean's have not paid a licensing fee, the longtime Acadiana restaurant is subject of a federal suit seeking statutory damages. ASCAP, which represents nearly 900,000 artists and musicians, said their requests for payment for a licensing fee have been ignored.
