Plus Territory Sounds Countdown, Fillet of Barra and more!
| The theme of National Reconciliation Week for 2021 is More Than A Word, which calls all of us to take action and take meaningful steps to better understand Aboriginal culture and find opportunities to contribute towards a reconciled Australia. As a proud Gurindji man I am heartened to see the enthusiastic approach of the ABC staff in Darwin to actively embrace the path towards reconciliation. The traditional owners of Darwin are the Larrakia people, and I was pleased to sit through a Larrakia language lesson from Auntie Bilawarra Lee. That, coupled with the Larrakia Welcome to Country mural being painted on the outside wall of the ABC Darwin building shows our commitment to reconciliation like never before. Reconciliation Week follows National Sorry Day, and as the descendants of the Stolen Generation it brings national attention to the pain, suffering and hurt that was caused to our mothers and grandmothers and to all the families that were broken up, fragmented and sometimes lost. We can’t change the past, but seeing the gradual change makes me hopeful for our future generations. It brings me hope that we can come together and work for the betterment of all our peoples and their futures. Charlie King, Territory Grandstand presenter, ABC Radio Darwin |
