Dear colleagues, Today is my first day as Chief Executive at the Care Quality Commission. Itâs a role Iâm delighted to be starting, but I also recognise the scale of the challenge that we face as the regulator. Iâve taken this role because of my deep commitment to ensuring that people receive safe and effective services, which has developed over 30 years of working in the health and care sector. I am dedicated to the improvement of health and social care services and believe CQC should play a key role in this. To do this and deliver our purpose, we need to urgently improve. We need to respond to what youâve already told us and work in partnership to identify how else we should change. Over the next few weeks, I'll be working with my new colleagues to rapidly implement the recommendations from the reviews led by Dr Penny Dash and Professor Sir Mike Richards. We will have a specific focus on addressing the current problems with our technology and methods so we can deliver more and better quality assessments. In doing this and what we do next, weâll work in a genuine co-design approach with you, the public, stakeholders and our colleagues to ensure we do the right thing. Iâm committed to enabling CQC to become a regulator that is outward looking and responsive, with a focus as much on improvement and support as on assessment. Above all, a regulator that puts people at the heart of everything we do. I look forward to working with you all to achieve that. |
