WHO’S HAULING TRASH? Come Monday, it’s unclear just who will be collecting household garbage in half of New Orleans. Mayor LaToya Cantrell has signed contracts with two new haulers to replace Metro Service Group, but a U.S. Bankruptcy Court order temporarily forbids terminating Metro’s contract and the City Council on Thursday failed in a 3-3 vote to fund the new agreements. FED UP WITH FEMA: With thousands of south Louisiana homeowners receiving startling increases in the cost of their flood insurance, members of Louisiana’s congressional delegation said Thursday they have run out of patience waiting for a meeting with FEMA to explain what went into calculating the new rates. OUT OF COMMISSION: Michael Thomas, ostensibly the New Orleans Saints’ best pass receiver but who has missed 31 of the team’s past 41 games due to injury, likely will miss the rest of the 2022 season. The Saints placed him on the injured reserve list Thursday. (For more Black and Gold news, sign up for our free Saints Insider newsletter, emailed daily during football season.) ERRATUM: In Thursday's Morning Headlines, we touted photos from the annual Day of the Dead procession in New Orleans' St. Roch neighborhood. But we linked to last year's photos. Doh! Here are photos and video from the 2022 procession. Thanks for starting your Friday with Morning Headlines. Catch the latest news all day on NOLA.com. D.B. |
