A reckoning over flood insurance costs

with Matthew Albright | Assistant metro editor

Good morning. Check out some of our top stories from yesterday.

A reckoning over flood insurance costs

The federal government is overhauling the National Flood Insurance Program, and rates for many people in Louisiana could be going up drastically — for some people, by thousands of dollars a month.

As the sheer scale of the increases becomes clear, homeowners, realtors and government leaders are questioning whether the increases are fair — and how FEMA came up with the numbers in the first place.

A heated hearing over Ronald Greene case

Louisiana legislators are holding hearings into the death of Ronald Greene, who died after he was beaten by State Police troopers at the end of a high-speed chase.

On Tuesday, they questioned Kevin Reeves, who was the State Police leader when the incident happened. The hearing got very heated at times; at one point, the chairman removed Reeves' lawyer from the dais.

This story explains what happened, and some of the criticisms and questions lawmakers raised.

15-year-old NFT whiz

A lot of people can't even explain what an NFT is, but 15-year-old Mya Parker has already made $10,000 off of them.

Check out this story to see how the Zachary High freshman took her down time from a torn ACL to create digital art — and sell it for a pretty penny.

Thanks for reading, and have a great day.
