Dear John,
Next time you are with your doctor ask them this question:
“Doc, I want to be healthy chasing my grandkids on the beach well past my 65th birthday. What do I need to do now in order to be healthy and active well into my 80’s?”
Typical answer which is a clear brush off and shows a lack of knowledge, or worse, a lack of care:
"Just eat a well balanced diet, get plenty of exercise, and good sleep.”
The answer a truly caring and knowledgeable doctor would give:
“That is a great question! The vast majority of people over the age of 65 die from one of these four causes: Heart disease, cancer, diabetes, or dementia. The precursor to all four of these illnesses is the same: Metabolic Syndrome. Metabolic Syndrome is caused by Insulin Resistance which causes too much blood sugar.
The best chance of you being healthy chasing your grandkids on the beach into your 80’s is a lifestyle that prevents Insulin Resistance. The way to prevent Insulin Resistance is to eat whole foods, avoid added sugar and all processed foods, keep your carbohydrate intake low while getting regular exercise and great sleep.”
It’s really important to know if your doctor is primarily focused on treating your symptoms, or if they are primarily focused on you having the best chance at chasing your grandkids into your 80’s.
So now you know - Choose To Win!
Tom
