Good evening

We have a serious problem in our service sector right now, with many hospitality sector and care businesses struggling to recruit as they try to return to normal day-to day operations.

Restaurants countrywide, and particularly in holiday hotspots, are struggling due to the skeleton nature of their staff base.

When Covid rears its head they are short handed and have to close - it's stressful for them and disruptive for customers.

The situation feels reminiscent of post-war Britain, where nobody wanted to be a servant or household staff any more.

Now we could spend hours dolling out blame, whether it be coronavirus, Brexit, or furlough, but the facts remain and what we need is a solution.

Today, as we get our heads round what winter 2021 will look like Covid-wise, as outlined by the Prime Minister, Labour leader Keir Starmer yesterday told the TUC how important it is we value workers, many of them just a pay packet away from hardship.

Politics aside, it is hard to put aside an argument for basic rights and security for those people on whom we rely as we make our way slowly out of a pandemic.

Have a lovely evening.

Regards, Nicola
