Click here A Special Invitation for YouDONATE HEREWhen Faizel Jacobs learnt that he needed a colostomy, his reaction was: “Suddenly, all those plans for tomorrow or the next day meant nothing.” Hello Friend of CANSA There’s a deep sense of loss and horror that comes with losing our natural bodily functions for waste removal. The radical surgical treatment for cancer of the urinary tract (urostomy), the small intestine (ileostomy), and the colon (colostomy) is life-saving, but it’s also life-changing. Today I’d like to invite you to join an exclusive group of CANSA friends, our Investors’ Circle. Our Investors’ Circle are special donors who always come to the rescue when a significant amount of money is needed. Would you please consider coming to the rescue by clicking here to make your donation . . . . . . to support ostomates on their life-saving, and life-changing journey” This surgery leaves the patient with a stoma – a hole in the abdomen creating an artificial passageway to allow the body to get rid of waste and be collected in an attached bag. Before the surgery even happens, every patient’s mind races through the questions of what it’ll be like, ‘living with a bag’. Will I smell bad? What if the bag leaks? What happens with flatulence? Will the bulge show through my clothes? How will my skin react to a constant adhesive? And how will living with a bag affect my personal and social relationships? Sometimes being an ostomate (person living with a bag) can be temporary, but often it’s permanent and the stoma remains open. In either case, there’s a great need for information, emotional and practical support, access to the correct products, and advice on daily and ongoing management. Thanks to the help he’s received, Faizel is well into his journey as an ostomate living a positive lifestyle. He has also started the Support and Advocacy Group, South African Society of Ostomates. And here’s what your full CANSA Investors’ Circle membership gift made online here can provide for other ostomates like him. Free pre- and post-operative counselling, with advice to ostomates and their family members empowering them to cope with living with a stoma day-to-day. For those patients living far from their nearest CANSA Care Centre, and our stoma clinics in Pretoria and Cape Town, this includes tele stoma support. An appointment can be made by calling our Toll Free line on 0800 22 66 22 or emailing counselling@cansa.org.za for a trained stoma consultant to call back during working hours. All calls are confidential. Stoma supplies can also be accessed through CANSA. This is especially vital for patients when public hospitals run out of stock. It can be really difficult adjusting to life as an ostomate, but your Investors’ Circle gift will help to smooth the way. And you can begin the process right now, by clicking here to send your gift. There will be many ostomates immensely grateful for your understanding and your kindness. And in addition, as a small token of our recognition for your full membership gift of R600 or more we’d like to send you a notebook. Thank you, so much. Yours sincerely, Elize Joubert P.S.: Faizel Jacobs has proved that a full and active life is possible as an ostomate. Your generosity – and gift made by clicking here – will help others to also live well with a stoma.
