| Dear John, Free press is a critical part of our country’s constitution: it allows journalists to deliver fact-based information free from the influence of government or powerful corporate interests. On May 3rd we recognize the importance of free press by celebrating World Press Freedom Day. To safeguard public media here in Northern California, and celebrate our free and independent news, Craig Newmark Philanthropies will match all gifts up to $50,000 in honor of World Press Freedom Day. This past year, our state received an onslaught of misinformation campaigns trying to influence the gubernatorial recall election. KQED’s voter guide delivered the facts to ensure you could make an informed decision. And for the first time ever, the voter guide was offered in Spanish to ensure even more members of our community had access to the information they needed to cast an informed vote. Elections in 2022 and beyond are sure to bring more misinformation and confusion, but with KQED on your side, you can cast your vote with confidence. |
