Good evening, As German holidaymakers flock to favourite holiday destination Majorca, and Brits look on bemused from their staycations or sofas, you can’t help wondering what they actually talked about during the G7 summit in Cornwall last week. It certainly wasn’t a plan to get on the same page and agree on a way forward to protect the human race from harm while allowing the freedoms that make life worth living. It seems that working together means working apart – a unified approach would have been the way forward. But while everyone goes about their approach to Covid differently, the travel business is in a constant state of insecurity. It’s great if you are renting out your cottage in the Lake District but not so much if you are an airline or a travel agent. Nobody wants Covid and everybody wants to protect the NHS (well most of us). The majority agree precautions are necessary and have willingly participated in the vaccine programme and postponed travel for now. Now everyone over the age of 18 in England will be able to book their Covid-19 vaccine from Friday, as Health Secretary Matt Hancock announced today. Speaking at the NHS Confed conference, he said the first dose has been given to four out of five adults. Please can we go on holiday soon? Thanks as always for supporting your local newspaper title - if you would like to subscribe to the Lancashire Post online we would be very grateful. Regards, Nicola |
