The A40 in Herefordshire is closed in both directions between the A49 (Ross-on-Wye) and A4137 (Whitchurch) junctions due to flooding, following heavy rainfall over the weekend. SErvice Providers will attend scene with equipment in order to attempt the water, which is completely across both carriageways.


Westbound traffic should follow the Solid Triangle symbol.

- Leave the A40 at the A49 (Ross-on-Wye) junction

- At the roundabout, take the third exit and join the A49 westbound

- Continue on the A49 for 3.5 miles, to the junction with the A4137 (signposted as Symond's Yat)

- At the junction, turn left onto the A4137

- Continue on the A4137 for 5 miles, to the junction with the A40 (signposted Monmouth)

- At the junction, turn right and rejoin the A40

Eastbound traffic should follow the Hollow Square symbol, which is the reverse of the westbound diversion (A4137 northbound, A49 eastbound)
