Indigenous Tourism Roadshow in Europe | ||
Eleven Indigenous Tourism Champions were nominated by their respective states to represent their product on a 12-day Indigenous Tourism Roadshow hosted by Tourism Australia this month. The Champions gave presentations to product managers, tour operators, media and key distribution partners in Paris, Frankfurt, Munich, Trier and Hamburg, training over 350 Aussie Specialist agents. Following the Roadshow, the Champions had a dedicated presence at ITB Berlin, the world’s leading travel trade show. The roadshow was supported by Australia’s state and territory organisations and Qantas Airways. | ||

New Champion - Wilpena Pound Resort, SA | ||
Wilpena Pound is a 800 million year old natural amphitheatre situated in the heart of the Ikara-Flinders Ranges National Park, 430 kilometres north of Adelaide. It is known locally as Ikara, and is the traditional homeland of the Adnyamathanha (Yura) people who own and operate the Wilpena Pound Resort. | ||
New Champion - Ngaran Ngaran, NSW | ||
Ngaran Ngaran Culture Awareness (NNCA) is an Aboriginal owned and operated tourism experience located in the Narooma/Tilba region on the South Coast of New South Wales on Yuin Country. The Gulaga Creation Tour is a three day tour which includes two nights’ accommodation, meals and a team of guides from NNCA led by guide, Dwayne ‘Naja’ Bannon-Harrison. The tour includes 5 to 7 hours of walking, a sunrise beach ceremony and a traditional reflection yarning circle. | ||
New Champion - Standley Chasm Angkerle Atwatye, NT | ||
Standley Chasm Angkerle Atwatye is a significant 'womans’ dreaming' site in Western Arrernte country, 40 minutes' drive from Alice Springs. Owned and operated by Angkerle Aboriginal Corporation, the site can be accessed by a self-guided 1.2 kilometre nature trail that links the kiosk and cafe to the Chasm. | ||
New Champion - Intrepid Travel's Journey into Olkola, QLD | ||
Journey into Olkola is a six day tour departing and returning from Cairns. Visitors are invited by the Olkola people as their guest to journey into Olkola Country (Cape York, Far North Queensland) to learn about traditional lifestyle and culture, listen to Olkola stories and walk the land with traditional owners. The tour incorporates some walking and four nights are spent in tents. Book any of the trips by 30 April 2016 to travel by 31 August 2016 and receive a 10% discount. New Champion - Saffire, TAS | ||
Visitors to Saffire Freycinet on Tasmania’s East Coast can now enjoy a Connection to Country Walk as part of Saffire’s Signature experiences. Under the expert guidance of Indigenous guide, Mick Quilliam, visitors learn about the history of the Oyster Bay people, sample local bush tucker, learn about tools and foraging and gain a greater understanding and appreciation of their own connection to country. | ||
New beachfront eco tents at Banubanu | ||
Banubanu is in the process of building three deluxe beachfront eco tents with private ensuite and decking. Located metres from the beach, the tents offer uninterrupted sea views overlooking the area where turtles nest at night. The tents will house a maximum of six people and will be available in mid 2016. | ||
New guide for Walkabout Cultural Adventures | ||
Walkabout Cultural Adventures has increased capacity on its tours and can now take a maximum of 11 people per tour thanks to the purchase of a second vehicle. They also have a new guide, Percy, the uncle of owner / operator Juan Walker. Percy is a Kuku Yalanji man, born and raised in the Mossman Daintree Region. He joins Juan and takes some of the tours, sharing his knowledge of the area and teaching visitors about his childhood and Aboriginal ancestral history and heritage. | ||
