By KELLY P. KISSEL | Metro editor Louisiana's abortion ban is ambiguous enough that it cannot be enforced, according to a Baton Rouge judge. District Judge Don Johnson has granted a preliminary injunction blocking the ban. An appeal is virtually certain, but for now abortions are still legal in the state. To address low pay among Baton Rouge police, the mayor has proposed a 7 percent pay increase for officers. Others in city-parish government would see a 5 percent raise, according to a proposal going before the Metro Council next week. The old Governor's Mansion is historic enough, but now we've learned that wallpaper inside the building is quite rare as well. The Secretary of State's office has allowed work to begin on its restoration. |
