| | | | | | Aloe vera is a perennial, succulent plant common to the tropical regions of the world. The thick gel derived from its leaves is used to heal wounds and to treat burns, psoriasis as well as frost bite. Aloe is also consumed orally for ulcerative colitis, diabetes and to relieve constipation. Topical use of aloe has been shown effective in the treatment of second‑degree burns, for reducing pain/burning sensation in patients with oral submucous fibrosis, and to speed up skin graft donor‑site healing. Combined use of chemotherapy and aloe led to tumor regression in patients with metastatic cancers along with improving survival. Aloe may also help prevent chemo‑induced oral mucositis. But findings of its effectiveness in healing radiation therapy‑associated skin damage are mixed. Although aloe is used to alleviate constipation, the FDA ruled that it is unsafe to use it as a stimulant laxative. | | | |

An MSK clinical fitness specialist/oncology nurse will demonstrate exercises and movements to improve posture and strengthen the upper back and shoulders. An MSK massage therapist will demonstrate the basic MLD sequence. The use of MLD as part of self‑care routine can help promote better lymphatic flow for those without lymphedema, and often helps extend the benefits of lymphedema therapy for those diagnosed and treated in rehab, a lymphatic clinic, or private practice.
