The Chronicle Wins National Journalism PrizeWhile not immune to ugly racist incidents, colleges are generally viewed as bastions of progressivism. Often, though, racial bias on campus and in the surrounding community is more subtle. On Tuesday The Chronicle won the Education Writers Association's prize for Best Feature, in the midsize-newsroom category, for a series of three articles, about Oberlin College, the University of Mississippi, and Western Illinois University. They examined campuses both beloved by and in tension with local residents, and the role that race played in those relationships.
