Is more VC funding going to Black founders?

In 2021, 1.2% of the record $147 billion in venture capital invested in U.S. startups through the first half of this year went to Black founders, according to data released Tuesday by Crunchbase on startup funding and diversity.

That’s double the share from 2020, when Black-led startups received 0.6% of the VC funding for the entire year. There's lots of work to be done, but it's a sign of some gain.

What do you think is responsible for this boost? How does the startup ecosystem continue this growth? Reply here or email baltimore@technical.ly. We may use your response in a story.
