The Occupational Safety and Health Administration has announced in updated guidance that employers "no longer need to take steps to protect their workers from COVID-19 exposure in any workplace, or well-defined portions of a workplace, where all employees are fully vaccinated." PwC forecasts 6.5% growth in employer health costs PwC's Health Research Institute projects 6.5% growth in employer medical costs for next year, driven by the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic and increased investment in digital health technologies. When Victor Perez was a doctoral student at the Florida Museum of Natural History, he used life-size replicas of megalodon teeth to ask high-school math students to figure out the ancient shark's total body length by providing the students with scientifically accepted equations. When Perez, now the assistant curator of paleontology at Maryland's Calvert Marine Museum, noticed the students had a wide range of answers, he realized the equations themselves were wrong -- leading researchers to change the accepted length of megalodons. I’m fascinated with sharks. My dad grew up on the windward side of Oahu, in Punalu’u, and all kinds of sharks roam those waters. My grandfather would tell me stories about the sharks he saw when he went diving and how he kept a safe distance from them. I was always riveted. So today’s Chatter story about megalodons -- the prehistoric cousin to the modern day great white shark -- is right up my alley. New methods of calculating the size of this animal show it could have been longer than 65 feet -- nearly twice the length of a full-size school bus. That’s Jaws on steroids.
