Net neutrality may be making a comeback. Net neutrality is the principle that companies who provide access to the internet are not allowed to block or gate-keep that internet traffic. For example, net neutrality rules prevent your internet service provider from hypothetically slowing down your connection on Netflix in favor of Amazon Prime. It was once the official policy of the United States after years of work by internet advocates. But it went away in 2017 under President Trump, and it hasn't come back… until now. Regulators at the U.S. Federal Communications Commission (FCC) announced that they will revisit net neutrality, and reports say that an initial vote will happen as early as October. Net neutrality rules are what made the internet open and wonderful. We're asking the Mozilla community – including you – to say that you support restoring net neutrality. Together we can show the FCC how many people agree and urge them to take swift action. Add your name to tell the U.S. Federal Communications Commission that you support restoring net neutrality. The more people who say they support net neutrality, the better the case we can make to reinstate it. Add your name → For years, the Mozilla community has shown up in the thousands to protect net neutrality from perpetual attack. This time is no different. When net neutrality was first under threat, hundreds of thousands of people acted with Mozilla to urge the FCC and the U.S. Congress to protect the regulations. And when net neutrality was overturned, we were the lead plaintiff in the lawsuit to bring it back. We never gave up hope about net neutrality, and neither did the FCC. On Monday, a new commissioner was sworn in, giving the FCC power and momentum to pursue net neutrality again. The time is ripe to bring back net neutrality, and a big show of support from the public will go a long way to telling regulators that this is the right thing to do. We at Mozilla love keeping the internet open, and we know you do too. Can you say you support net neutrality and help reclaim the internet? Add your name to tell U.S. regulators that you support Net Neutrality and want it back. Add your name → Thanks for all that you do for the internet, Reem Suleiman US Advocacy Lead Mozilla |
