| Preface | | | Despite the measures taken by universities, women are still underrepresented in higher academic positions. The LNVH Monitor 2017 does show an increased of the number of female professors by 1.2% in 2016, also 19.3% of the FTEs of professors were occupied by women in 2016. Although this is a welcome increase, with this growth rate an equal gender distribution will only be reached in 2051. Universities do not just want to serve as an example, they also recognise that too much talent for fantastic research and education is lost because of unequal opportunities. And although research has shown that gender biases are not in line with reality, these prejudices, often unconsciously, do have a large effect.
