After her toddler drowned, she felt called to act

Mazie was 17 months old when she died, falling into a pool after leaving the house through a doggie door.

In the weeks afterwards, her mother tried to find a ray of hope in her unimaginable grief. Now she leads a nonprofit dedicated to helping teach water safety, in a state where water is everywhere and drowning is the third biggest cause of death for kids 14 and younger. 

Here's her story. 


The brief but ferocious storm that tore through Baton Rouge on Monday night left debris everywhere, seriously injured one person and trapped three people in a home crushed beneath a tree. 

It also slammed the area's electric grid, knocking out power for more than 20,000 people. And on Tuesday, as temperatures hit 100 degrees, thousands of people still didn't have power.
