BLM Alaska Fire Service officials are keeping an eye on a large tundra fire burning in a remote part of Western Alaska. The Atchuelinguk Fire (#090) is burning in the Yukon Delta National Wildlife Refuge approximately 33 miles north of Marshall. Surrounded by bodies of water, it is located east of the confluence of the Nageethin and Atchuelinguk rivers. A BLM AFS firefighter who conducted an aerial survey of the area on Tuesday night estimated the fire had burned about 1,000 acres of dead grass and brush. BLM AFS Galena Zone personnel plan to conduct daily aerial surveys of the fire. The fire is situated in a limited management option area in a remote location where it is allowed to play its natural ecological role. There are several allotments to the northwest of the fire, the nearest being within 3 miles.  

Seattle firefighters responded to Lake Union when two houseboats caught fire on Wednesday afternoon. Crews responded to the 1800 block of Westlake Avenue North where two houseboats were on fire, according to Seattle Fire. The fire extended to an adjacent building. The fire was reported under control around 2:30 p.m. and was downgraded from the 2-alarm response. "It's a very tight community here, I received a text saying there was a fire on the dock and one of my boats was engulfed," said Glenn Froehlich, who owns the houseboat that caught fire. He rents out several in the marina. By the time he arrived to see what was happening, the fire was out. "The damage was, of course, significant once I was able to get down to the dock and see what happened," Froehlich said.

The incident, which occurred on Saturday (May 11) at the intersection of Puritan Avenue and Schaefer Highway, is just one of many instances involving fire vehicles that have been reported. Officials said the crash was so severe the rig airbags went off, but no patient was in the ambulance when it flipped. Local 4 was told that no medics or the other driver were injured. But, while looking into the numbers, we're told that Detroit fire engine operators have been hitting parked cars, causing damage to firehouse doors incredibly rapidly, including Tuesday morning. The driver of Tuesday's engine crash backed into a woman's car in a parking lot on Woodward Avenue.  

VIDEO: A veteran-founded organization is leveraging mapping technology to help first responders during crises in Tennessee. The Critical Response Group (CRG) aims to enhance emergency response systems in schools across the state. The CRG, founded by veterans, started with a straightforward goal: ensuring accurate maps of schools for public safety and law enforcement use during emergencies. Veteran Alex Carney is the Chief Strategy Officer at CRG. Drawing from their battlefield experience, Carney said the group adapted military mapping and communication techniques for public safety application. "What we did is we took how we map and plan and communicate in that [military] environment, and we applied the same philosophy or the same techniques to help public safety so they can map in big, complicated buildings like a high school that they're not familiar with," Carney said.
