Anchorage firefighters responded to a partial building collapse in the Taku/Campbell neighborhood on Friday morning, according to a news release from the Anchorage Fire Department. Firefighters were called to a building in the 5400 block of Cordova Street, between East 53rd and East 54th avenues, at 9:09 a.m. on a suspected gas leak. Property records for the municipality show the owner of the condominiums on the site, as well as a kitchen design business. When firefighters arrived, they saw the building had partially collapsed. Everyone who was inside the building got out and no injuries were reported. The cause of the collapse is still under investigation. The fire department stressed in the release the importance of clearing snow off roofs and said there is approximately 20-25 pounds per square foot of snow load on Anchorage roofs.  

PHOTOS: Numerous fire departments responded to a massive blaze burning Saturday night at a fuel company in Epping, New Hampshire. The Exeter Fire Department said around 5:15 p.m. that firefighters had responded to 76 Depot Road in Epping for a large fire involving three oil tankers and a tractor-trailer at North Atlantic Fuels. The fire was brought under control just before 7 p.m., thanks in part to the crash truck from the Manchester-Boston Regional Airport, which brought hundreds of gallons of foam to the scene along with the Southeast HAZMAT team. Video shared by Exeter Fire on social media showed an incredibly active scene, with bright yellow flames and thick orange and black smoke billowing into the dark sky. Pictures later shared showed several burned out vehicles in the company's parking lot. No injuries were reported, thankfully.  

Emergency responders in Washington on Monday were dispatched to a false alarm at the White House after a 911 caller claimed there was a structure fire in the building. Noah Gray, the chief communications officer for D.C. Fire and Emergency Medical Services, said its units were dispatched to the White House just after 7 a.m. after receiving a call about a fire in the building. He said that in coordination with the Secret Service, responders determined there was no fire emergency. The issue was resolved by 7:16 a.m., Gray noted. President Biden was in Camp David at the time of the call. He later headed to Philadelphia for a service trip marking Martin Luther King Jr. Day. There has been a series of swatting incidents involving public officials and offices over the past month.  

VIDEO: 20 years ago Monday, the city of Bangor lost of a piece of history in a devastating fire downtown that gutted the Masonic Hall. "Unprecedented," said Bangor Fire Department Assistant Chief Greg Hodge. "We've never seen anything even remotely close to that. I can't remember the number of millions of gallons of water that was flowed onto that fire. It was just something that you will probably never see again." Hodge was among the emergency responders called in back then. Authorities believe the blaze started in the basement and quickly spread throughout the building. That building housed not only the Masons, but other businesses including Yankee Shoe Repair and Riverside Art Gallery. The sub freezing temperatures left the building blanketed in ice from all the water used to contain the fire.
