PHOTOS: A major fire at the one store in Stebbins, Alaska on Monday has left one third of that western Alaska community without power, and a community without a store or fuel, as winter sets in on isolated St. Michael's Island on Norton Sound. The village of Stebbins is eight miles north of the village of St. Michael's, and 120 miles southeast of Nome. It is a Yup'ik Eskimo village of about 625 people, with a commercial fishing and subsistence way of life. The store is completely destroyed. There is no fire department in Stebbins, and the fire spread to a nearby fuel company, which also caught fire. There was no one inside the building and no one was injured in the blaze, which is still smoldering at the time of this story's publication.

VIDEO: The Birmingham-Shuttlesworth International Airport now has its first ever fire station on its airfield. It's called the Aircraft Rescue and Fire Fighting (ARFF) building. During Tuesday's ribbon cutting, two new fire trucks were also unveiled and they're unlike any emergency vehicle around. "These types of fire trucks are not really necessary outside of the airport. They are designed specifically for aircraft and airports," said Board Chair of the Birmingham Airport Authority Darlene Wilson. Birmingham Fire and Rescue Fire Chief Cory Moon said the two new trucks are bigger and can hold more water and have other unique features. "Blaze One has a height reach extendable turret with a piercing nasal that's able to breach the skin of an aircraft and extinguish the fire inside the aircraft," said Moon.

PHOTOS: Rising star Mike Ryan recently encountered a scary situation on the road when his tour bus caught fire. The independent country singer took to social media to share the devastating news with his followers early Tuesday morning (Nov. 29) alongside three photos of the aftermath of the tour bus fire. The first photo shows Ryan's black tour bus with the front windows torched with soot covering the ground. The series continues with photos of the back of the bus completely burnt and melted before the final snapshot took fans inside the now-destroyed bus. "There isn't much good news here but at least no one was on the bus when it happened," Ryan captioned the photos.

More than a dozen bars in Texas will soon be stocked with naloxone and bartenders will be trained as "first responders" to administer the medication that can reverse an opioid overdose, Travis County Judge Andy Brown announced on Monday. "Today, I'm excited to share how we are taking life-saving steps that are more inclusive and meet people where they are," Brown said during a press conference at the Star Bar in Austin. The event was live-streamed on KVUE News. The initiative is part of the county's strategy to reduce accidental overdose deaths. "Travis County is working with nonprofits here and local nonprofits to provide bars and bartenders with Narcan, plus the training that is required to use it," he continued. Narcan is one of the brand names under which naloxone is sold.

Flu season is intensifying in the U.S. with more than 6 million cases confirmed so far, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported on Monday. The federal health agency said in a weekly update it has already recorded more than 53,000 hospitalizations and 2,900 deaths from the flu this season, as of the week ending Nov. 19. Twelve children have died from the flu so far, the CDC said, and the cumulative hospitalization rate is the highest it's been at this point in the flu season since the 2010-2011 one. The CDC recommends that everyone aged 6 months and older get vaccinated against the flu annually. Flu season typically starts in October and ends around May, with a peak in December or January. It began six weeks early this year, causing a spike in hospitalization rates.
