WARSAW– Poland is heading for a second round in its presidential election, with liberal candidate Rafał Trzaskowski and nationalist conservative Karol Nawrocki emerging as the top two contenders in today's vote, according to exit polls. Trzaskowski, the pro-European mayor of Warsaw and candidate of the centre-right ruling Civic Coalition, secured just over 30,8% of the vote, according to an Ipsos poll for public TVP & private Polsat and TVN. Nawrocki, a historian supported by the nationalist Law and Justice (PiS) party, came second with around 29,1%. |
