Crossing the Forth (Rail) Bridge in a blizzard Footage shared by a ScotRail train conductor shows thick fog surrounding the Forth Bridge as the country continues to grapple with freezing temperatures. The video comes the nation woke up to heavy snowfall this morning with an amber weather warning in place for more until 9pm on Tuesday evening. The footage shows poor visibility with thick fog preventing the driver from being able to see more than several hundred metres across the bridge from the train. UK arrivals face fines up to £10k for breaking quarantine People arriving in the UK from Covid-19 hotspots abroad face fines of up to £10,000 and a 10 year jail sentence if they break the new travel rules, the UK Health Secretary has announced. As of 15 February, UK nationals and residents returning from a list of 33 countries where the government fears Covid-19 variants have spread will have to self-isolate in approved accommodation for a 10 day period. Matt Hancock has said that people who are required to quarantine in hotels after returning from “red list” countries will have to pay this much to cover the cost of their accommodation, transport and testing. Scottish international arrivals may escape quarantine via England Concerns that international passengers travelling to Scotland could escape strict new quarantine rules if they go via English airports have been raised by the Transport Secretary. A comprehensive "block booking" of hotel rooms in Scotland will be implemented through a single contract with the UK Government to support the new self-isolation system for international arrivals to suppress the spread of coronavirus, Michael Matheson has confirmed.
