Another Singles Day, Another Series Of Smashed Records For Alibaba And Alipay
 
Singles’ Day has come and gone, and Alibaba managed to smash its previous sales record with $25.3 billion worth of merchandise sold and 1.48 billion transactions processed in a 24-hour period. For scale, if one took all the money made on Black Friday and Cyber Monday in the U.S. in 2016, combined it and doubled it, the result would still be a little short of all the money Alibaba made during Singles Day this year. Not bad for a holiday designed a decade ago to “help single people feel less lonely.”
